Supporting women and their families through pre-pregnancy, pregnancy and birth is a privilege. I am passionate about providing my patients with the highest quality antenatal care, based on the most up-to-date research and technology. I am also a firm believer in informed patient choice and I know that each of my patients will have different needs and wishes. My practice is a friendly, welcoming environment with a focus on individualised care. My aim is always to work with you, respecting your choices, to achieve a happy and healthy outcome for mother and baby.
I am a Consultant Obstetrician and Maternal-Fetal Medicine (high-risk pregnancy and advanced obstetric ultrasound) specialist. I deliver private patients at North Shore Private Hospital and Royal North Shore Hospital on Sydney’s lower North Shore. I offer advanced pregnancy ultrasound scans, prenatal diagnosis and CVS/amniocentesis procedures to my patients – and the patients of other obstetricians – in my modern rooms in St Leonards. I‘m also a staff specialist in the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Unit at Royal North Shore Hospital, where I see public patients with high-risk pregnancies referred from all over New South Wales.
With nearly 15 years’ international experience and fellowships in both obstetrics and gynaecology, I provide expert, contemporary care to women before, during and after pregnancy. Having personally delivered more than 2,000 babies, I offer expertise in normal labour and vaginal birth, as well as complex deliveries and caesarean sections. As an expert in high-risk obstetrics, my private practice focuses on complex pregnancies, including medical complications in pregnancy, twins and triplets, IVF pregnancies and women with previous pregnancy complications. I am also very happy to care for women with uncomplicated pregnancies. As an ultrasound specialist, I have personally performed ultrasound scans in more than 5,000 high risk pregnancies.
A little about my background…
Originally from Ireland, I completed my specialist obstetrics and gynaecology training in Dublin, Cambridge and New York. I also undertook a 3-year Urogynaecology fellowship in Sydney. After this, I returned to the world-renowned National Maternity Hospital in Dublin, to complete my sub-specialist training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
I am a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) and a Member of both the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (MRCOG) and the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (MRCPI).
As Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney, I have a long-time interest in teaching and research and hold a PhD from the University of New South Wales. Having published more than 90 papers and book chapters, I always stay up to date on the latest research in obstetric practice, so that I can offer my patients the highest standard of professional care. I am also a RANZCOG-recognized ultrasound supervisor for obstetricians-in-training.
On a personal note, I am married to a lovely Australian wife and live in Crows Nest, very close to all the hospitals where my patients deliver.
